Scale overview: The Spiritual Abuse Questionnaire-Short Form is a 4-item self-report instrument developed by Griffin and her colleagues (2025). Participants rate each item on a 4-point scale of agreement. The SAQ‑SF is a short, psychometrically sound measure for identifying potential experiences of spiritual abuse. It shows strong internal consistency, moderate short‑term stability, and distinctiveness from general mental health or religiosity measures (Sutton, 2025, July 27).

Psychometric properties
Overall, the initial data support adequate reliability and validity in the US sample.
Means and SDs (Standard Deviations) are provided in Table 1 of the journal article. No problems were noted for skew or kurtosis.
The results include interitem correlations and findings from EFA, CFA, and measurement invariance testing.
Reliability data revealed good internal consistency with alpha = .85 and moderate test-retest of .52 over one week (N = 36).
Correlations with measures of depression and anxiety were low as was the relationship with the DUREL (r = -.27).
The short form was moderately correlated (r = .68) with the longer 17-item SAQ measure.
