Forgiveness is a five-item self-report measure of a person’s perception of
being forgiven by God.

Response
Type: The first 3
items are rated on a 4-point scale of agreement from strongly disagree to
strongly agree.
The last 2
item are rated on a scale of frequency of forgiveness from never to many times.

Psychometric
properties
Refer to
two Fincham and May publications identified by date as 2019 or 2023.
The total
score is used in calculations.
Higher
scores indicate greater divine forgiveness.
In 2019,
coefficient alpha was .71 and test-retest reliability = .56 over 7 weeks.
In study 1
(2023), coefficient alpha values were .93 and .92.
Factor
analysis supported a single factor in 2019 and 2023.
Divine
forgiveness was significantly positively correlated with religiosity (2023).
Divine
forgiveness was significantly positively correlated with the Heartland
Self-forgiveness scale (2019).
